Standard Edition Blu-ray

“We’re repeating the same week!” An entire office is caught in a time loop in this fresh science-fiction comedy, a word-of-mouth hit that turns a familiar working week into something wonderfully strange. What if the days that feel endlessly repetitive really were repeating?

MONDAYS is the second feature from Ryo Takebayashi, who attracted attention with the unconventional youth-reality film 14-sai no Shiori. He again collaborates on the screenplay with Saeri Natsuo, following Hello! Brand New World—the video also known by its title “I Can’t Take It Anymore. I’m at My Limit. I Want to Run Away,” which reached eighty million views in Japan and overseas—and BestFeiends.com. Its small advertising agency, exhausted employees and seemingly outrageous but recognisable situations struck a chord with audiences. The growing buzz brought comparisons with One Cut of the Dead.

Wan Marui, who made her screen debut in Love and Other Cults, takes her second leading role after Kontora as Akemi Yoshikawa. Makita Sports, also a comedian, musician and writer, plays the department head whose actions hold the key to the story.

It is Monday morning, and Yoshikawa is rushing to prepare a presentation when two junior colleagues tell her they have been living the same week over and over. To stop her dismissing it as a dream, they give her a sign to remember: a pigeon.

Another Monday arrives. When a pigeon crashes loudly into the office window, Yoshikawa suddenly recognises what happened the week before. One by one, the employees become convinced that they are trapped in the loop. Their boss, however—the person who holds the key to escaping—never seems to notice. With different intentions pulling the staff in different directions, the same Monday keeps returning. Can teamwork finally release them from this cycle of despair and hope?

This standard edition includes interviews and a commentary with director Ryo Takebayashi and screenwriter Saeri Natsuo, a second commentary by the cast, the making-of programme How MONDAYS Was Made and the theatrical trailer.
