The dramatic comeback of the men and women who were not competitors begins.

Highlights Number one in Filmarks' opening-day satisfaction ranking, according to the June 21 survey. This moving true story about the miraculous comeback achieved by test jumpers who were not competing athletes took first place ahead of the other films. What meaning lay behind Harada's words in his interview after winning gold: “It wasn't me. It was everyone. Everyone”? The film dynamically depicts the nerve-racking team competition at Nagano, its interruption by a blizzard, and the desperate jumps of twenty-five test jumpers to establish whether the competition could resume, based on a true story. Leading artists perform the theme and featured songs. The theme is by MISIA, the accomplished Japanese artist who became the final performer at the seventy-first NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen and fulfilled the major role of singing Japan's national anthem at the Tokyo Olympics. MAN WITH A MISSION performs the featured song Perfect Clarity.

About the film At the 1998 Nagano Olympics, the ski-jumping team's dramatic comeback gold medal brought joy to all of Japan. The untold, moving story of the twenty-five test jumpers who supported that glory behind the scenes now becomes a film. The protagonist is ski jumper Jinya Nishikata. At the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, he helped lead Japan as a member of the national ski-jumping team, the Hinomaru Squadron, but the failed jump of ace Masahiko Harada cost them the gold medal. Nishikata trained day after day, determined to avenge that result at Nagano. Although considered a strong candidate, he narrowly missed selection. He became a test jumper, repeatedly jumping before competition to inspect the ski-jump conditions and establish safety, and supported the Japanese representatives behind the scenes. The story portrays his powerful desire for gold, the setback that shattered it, his friendship with Harada, his anger and jealousy, and the profound human drama of a man who nevertheless takes on test jumps for his companions and for Japan without regard for the danger to his own life. It also vividly portrays the determination and conflicts of test jumpers from many backgrounds: real-life athlete Ryuji Takahashi, who won an international ski-jumping competition despite a hearing impairment; a jumper traumatised after an injury; and the sole female high-school jumper, modelled on real-life athlete Yoshiko Kasai, who passionately wanted to participate in Nagano even as a test jumper at a time when women's ski jumping was not an Olympic event. This original story, based on real events, dynamically depicts the tense struggle of the Nagano team competition, its suspension by a blizzard, and the life-risking jumps undertaken by the twenty-five test jumpers led by Nishikata to determine whether the competition could resume. This hidden truth will surely move you to tears.

Story Behind the glory everyone knows lay a miracle achieved by twenty-five test jumpers whom nobody knew. Japan's ski-jumping team is aiming for its first gold medal in the Olympic large-hill team event at Nagano. Watching ace Harada's jump with complicated feelings is former Japanese representative Jinya Nishikata, played by Kei Tanaka. At the previous Lillehammer Olympics, Nishikata competed alongside Harada, but the result was silver. He devoted himself to training, vowing to make up for it four years later, only to miss national-team selection. In his disappointment, he is asked to participate in the Olympics as a test jumper. Feeling humiliated, he nevertheless accepts a supporting role behind the scenes. The competition finally arrives. After the first round of team jumps, Japan unexpectedly falls back to fourth place. Then a fierce blizzard halts the event. Just as the prospect of a medal begins to disappear, the judges present an unprecedented condition: the competition will resume if all twenty-five test jumpers can jump safely. Amid dangerous weather that also threatens their lives, the faint hope of a gold medal is entrusted to Nishikata and the other twenty-four test jumpers.

Recorded extras Teasers and television spots.
