At 25, Subaru Tendo has good looks, money and almost no understanding of ordinary life. Raised indulgently by his grandfather Wataru after losing his parents, he is heir to Fukuten, a clothing company said to possess assets of 300 billion yen. His grandfather has already financed two failed businesses with Subaru’s closest friend, Tomoya Kusakabe. When a third venture collapses without a workable plan or strategy, Wataru orders him to start again as an entry-level employee at the family company.

Subaru arrives at orientation in expensive designer clothes and assumes that everyone’s attention is admiration. His trainer, the thrifty and down-to-earth Madoka Hanakura, instead dismisses the outfit as inappropriate and unfashionable, making him change into one of the company’s older suits. Unaccustomed to being reprimanded, he leaves furious. That evening, he moves into a worn employee apartment and struggles with his new surroundings. When he turns up his music to distract himself, an angry neighbor appears at the door: Madoka, the very woman who humiliated him earlier.
