A full-scale adventure tale returns in its long-awaited second television anime series. This is Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, Blu-ray Box Part 1, containing episodes 1–6.

Made in Abyss, serialised to great acclaim in Web Comic Gamma, receives its long-awaited second television season. The 2017 television anime became a major hit through the overwhelming world of the mysterious Abyss and the harsh developments awaiting Riko and her companions. In 2019, the compilation films Journey's Dawn and Wandering Twilight opened, followed in 2020 by Dawn of the Deep Soul. Its intense story, impossible to watch without tears, attracted wide attention. At last, the second television anime season begins broadcasting from July 2022.

The original first-press offer included a box newly illustrated by original author Akihito Tsukushi, a digipak newly illustrated by character designer Yuka Kuroda, the approximately forty-page Abyss Exploration Record: Golden City, Part 1 booklet with detailed episode explanations and design materials, director Masayuki Kojima's storyboard collection, end-card portraits and an application for priority ticket sales to an event. The event was scheduled for January 15, 2023 at Hitotsubashi Hall in Tokyo, with Miyu Tomita, Mariya Ise, Shiori Izawa, Misaki Kuno, Yuka Terasaki, Hiroaki Hirata and Mitsuki Saiga. The exact-edition retailer marks all first-press items as no longer available; the event has passed. These items are excluded from the current listing.

Former Kadokawa Store promotions are also excluded: canvas artwork for purchasing both volumes by January 31, 2023 at 23:59; special Faputa playing cards in the early-reservation campaign that opened June 17, 2022 at 10:00; and a drawing for cast-signed scripts covering orders placed by October 23, 2022 at 23:59. The publisher marks all three campaigns as ended. These were promotional gifts rather than current guaranteed contents.

Regular extras comprise the short bonus anime Together with Papa; episode 1 cast commentary with Yuka Terasaki as Vueko, Hiroaki Hirata as Wazukyan, Mitsuki Saiga as Belaf and Misaki Kuno as Irumyuui; and episode 3 staff commentary with director Masayuki Kojima, original author Akihito Tsukushi, writer Hideyuki Kurata and producer Shimpei Yamashita. Commentaries are supplementary tracks, separate from the episodes' main Japanese audio.

In a world explored down to its every corner, the vast pit called the Abyss remains the only unexplored frontier. Its immense depths seem without end, populated by strange creatures and containing precious relics that present-day humanity could not make. The Abyss's mysterious appearance captivates people and drives them to adventure. Those who repeatedly challenge the great pit gradually become known as Cave Raiders.

Riko, an orphan living in Orth, the city built on the Abyss's rim, dreams of becoming a great Cave Raider like her mother and uncovering the Abyss's mysteries. One day, the discovery of her mother Lyza's White Whistle prompts Riko to decide to descend deep into the Abyss. Reg, the amnesiac robot whom Riko found, decides to accompany her in search of his own memories.

In the fourth layer, Riko suffers from the Orb Piercer's poison. Nanachi, a Hollow, saves her. With Nanachi joining them, the three continue their adventure towards the fifth layer where Bondrewd waits. There they meet a girl named Prushka, raised by Bondrewd without knowledge of the outside world. Fascinated by Riko's adventure stories, she wants to travel with them, but is used in Bondrewd's experiments. Prushka nevertheless changes form and becomes Riko's White Whistle. The group progresses to the sixth layer, the Capital of the Unreturned. There they find a village of Hollows, who live by their own distinctive values.

Original broadcast schedule: AT-X from July 6, 2022, Wednesdays at 22:30, with repeats Fridays at 10:30 and Tuesdays at 16:30; Tokyo MX, Sun TV and KBS Kyoto from July 6, Wednesdays at 25:05; BS 11 from July 6, Wednesdays at 25:00; TV Aichi from July 7, Thursdays at 26:35; Saga TV from July 10, Sundays at 25:25.
