ossan-s-love-returns-blu-ray-box
Ossan's Love Returns Blu-ray Box

Five years after the original series, Ossan’s Love returns to the legendary romance of Haruta, Maki and Musashi. What began as a late-night special in 2016 grew into a celebrated television series, a film, a parallel-world drama and overseas remakes. This sequel follows the original story beyond falling in love, asking what it really means to become a family. Its return topped global X trends, with catch-up views passing fifteen million before the finale in February 2024.

Once an unlucky-in-love office worker who longed to marry, Soichi Haruta found himself receiving unexpected confessions from his respected boss Musashi Kurosawa and his capable younger colleague and housemate, Ryota Maki. Initially overwhelmed, Haruta could no longer put either man out of his mind. He eventually accepted Musashi’s proposal, only to recognise his true feelings at the wedding. With Musashi’s encouragement, he ran to Maki and shouted his own marriage proposal across a pedestrian crossing.

After a long-distance relationship through the pandemic, Haruta and Maki finally begin their belated newlywed life. Haruta imagines shared meals, games, dates and affectionate days together, but Maki’s promotion keeps him busy immediately after returning to Japan. Small disagreements about household chores and sorting the rubbish turn into increasingly frequent arguments.

Haruta has also moved up at Tenku Fudosan and must train Ko Izumi, a newly hired subordinate who is older than him. Distracted and awkward, Izumi struggles with leaflet delivery and spreadsheets. Even Haruta’s gentlest efforts to help can end with Izumi bursting into tears and running away.

Hoping to give the couple more time together, Chizu recommends the Bashauma housekeeping service. The housekeeper who arrives is Musashi, back at work after an early retirement during which nobody could reach him. Haruta is delighted by the reunion, while Maki dreads the return of his former rival. At first Musashi remains distant and strictly professional. Soon, however, his complaints about cleaning methods and seasoning escalate into a battle resembling a clash between a spouse and an overbearing in-law.

Their friends’ lives are changing too. Chizu balances work with single parenthood; Takekawa loses himself in dating apps; Kuribayashi and Choko begin living in a two-generation household; and Maika and Teppei now have a family of four. Near the real-estate office, a mysterious man runs the mobile rice-ball shop Omusubi Gororin. Love alone cannot solve every problem, and marriage is only the beginning of this warm, chaotic family comedy.

The bonus programmes revisit the production through previously unseen and extended scenes, mishaps, alternate angles, making-of footage, spin-off dramas and a newly filmed visual commentary. Stage greetings, promotional material and conversations around a kotatsu bring further laughter and memories from the series.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0997/9700/8749/files/hobbytiger-media-ossan-s-love-returns-blu-ray-box-01.jpg?v=1793409885
