This completely new special continues the story from the previous New Year special.

At the beginning of 2020, Goldic, an Osaka company that Akiko, played by Haruka Ayase, had been guiding toward recovery, suffers a takeover. Its new owner is the head of a foreign investment fund: a corporate vulture who buys companies cheaply, then sells their shares and assets at high prices for enormous profits.

Yet when Akiko comes face to face with this hated opponent, she is left speechless. The man she should take revenge on, Ryoji Iwaki, played by Yutaka Takenouchi, looks exactly like her late husband Ryoichi, also played by Takenouchi in a dual role.

After this startling beginning, Ryoji sets his sights on an unexpected acquisition: Bakery Mugita. A new business initiative has helped the bakery steadily increase its sales. Ryoji plans to merge it with a major bread manufacturer by exploiting the carefree ambition of its manager Akira Mugita, played by Takeru Sato, to become Japan's finest baker.

Akiko, Mugita's sales director, rejects Ryoji's proposal because it clearly seems to hide another purpose. Even so, her heart begins to waver. What developments await in this acquisition drama? Revenge against a corporate vulture, or perhaps love? Could it become a love triangle involving Mugita, who has feelings for Akiko?

Watching these adults with her familiar smile, Miyuki, played by Moka Kamishiraishi, wishes for Akiko's happiness more than anyone. What does true happiness mean? The mother and daughter, unrelated by blood, continue searching for forms of love as though playing their enduring blues. They worry, become angry, sometimes quarrel, and then come close again. The people around them continue supporting their family with warmth and kindness. Once again, there are countless smiles and the tiniest miracles.

The Blu-ray contains the 126-minute television special and seventy-seven minutes of bonus footage. Extras include making-of footage, a re-edited promotional guide program, filming wrap-ups, interviews with Haruka Ayase, Yutaka Takenouchi and Takeru Sato, and the Gibo to Musume no Blues production press conference.
