At Togo Memorial Hospital, Natsumi attends a meeting with Seiji about improving operations through measures including personnel reductions. When chairwoman Michi Togo criticizes the pediatric surgery department's profitability, department head Keisuke Mamiya protests that they are already understaffed. Seiji argues that, despite the deficit and the declining number of pediatric wards, their department is the children's last line of defense. Hospital director Akira Shiga agrees and announces that a new resident will join the understaffed team that day, while deputy director Ryunosuke Inoguchi listens silently.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThat resident is Minato, who graduated top of his university class. Shiga explains that he has autism spectrum disorder. Although the doctors object, Shiga has a high opinion of Minato's medical ability and his savant syndrome. When Minato gets off the bus, an accident leaves a child injured on the ground. He stops a passing doctor's procedure and gives first aid himself. An ambulance arrives just as he finishes. Although he wants to hurry to his first day at the hospital, he accompanies the child. At Togo Memorial Hospital, Natsumi receives word from the emergency department that the child is arriving. Minato appears beside the stretcher as the ambulance reaches the hospital.
