Adapted from Hachi Nishika's manga, the drama takes its time over their small, precious moments together, finding warmth and gentle comedy in two inexperienced people learning how to share a life.

Natsumi Sekiya is stunned when her father Atsuzo announces that she will marry in a week. On the wedding day, her groom, Imperial Japanese Navy lieutenant Takimasa Ebata, is called away for training, leaving only his photograph beside the bride. Natsumi's mother Satsuki and the rest of the family can scarcely believe it. While waiting for Takimasa, Natsumi stays at the home of his commanding officer, who arranged the marriage, and his wife Ikuko Shibahara.

Two weeks later, Takimasa returns. Natsumi, who has had little opportunity to speak with men, struggles to find something to say, while her quiet, expressionless husband makes conversation no easier. Suddenly he gets up and begins inspecting the detached rooms of the Shibahara house. When Natsumi notices a dressing table in the bedroom, he declares that they will take the room and disappears again. He returns carrying a rice pot and cooking utensils, with borrowed dishes piled at the entrance. Flustered that he has prepared the kitchen himself, Natsumi tries to help, but the dishes wobble in her hands. Takimasa reaches out to steady them, their hands touch, and she blushes while he looks from his own hand to her in bewilderment.
