A Dog of Flanders Complete Series COMPACT Blu-ray Box

Near Antwerp, a kind-hearted boy named Nello dreams of becoming a painter. Though poor, he finds happiness with his grandfather Jehan, his loyal dog Patrasche and his childhood friend Alois. When his grandfather dies and suspicion falls on him after a windmill fire, the life he has known begins to fall apart. His admiration for Rubens' paintings eventually leads him to the cathedral on Christmas Eve.

The first series in World Masterpiece Theater returns in this complete 52-episode collection. Originally broadcast in 1975, A Dog of Flanders follows Nello's everyday friendships, his bond with Patrasche and his hope of succeeding through art, before the increasingly difficult events that lead to its final chapter.

For the programme's fiftieth anniversary, this compact four-disc Blu-ray edition uses an HD remaster transferred from the original 35 mm negatives. Michie Kita voices Nello and Hiroo Oikawa plays Jehan. Alois is voiced by Yoko Asagami in episodes one to three and by Reiko Katsura thereafter; Reiko Muto provides the narration.

The collection contains 1,344 minutes of episodes and three minutes of extras, including two credit-free ending sequences. The original 4:3 picture is presented in 1080p with Japanese Linear PCM mono audio. These region-free Blu-rays have no subtitles. Newly drawn artwork by Yoshiharu Sato decorates the storage box that houses the discs.
