Aretha CASSETRON Game Music

Materia returns as Aretha, the acclaimed series that overturned expectations for handheld RPGs, receives its first soundtrack release. At a time when playing an RPG on a portable console was still unusual, this forward-looking series featured a female protagonist, eight-direction movement, a Fuzzy System that automatically avoided obstacles, borrowing through cash dispensers and a Capsule Monster System for commanding monsters.

Developed by Japan Art Media and published by Yanoman from 1990 onward, Aretha celebrates thirty-five years with music from the three Game Boy titles among its six games. The accompanying publication also shares behind-the-scenes accounts from developers and others involved, available to read here. The adventure is ready to begin again.
