Beautiful Dreamer 2020 Blu-ray

Katsuyuki Motohiro, director of the Bayside Shakedown series, follows Summer Time Machine Blues and The Curtain Rises with a new coming-of-age film full of laughter and tears!

The first work from the new Cinema Lab label, combining ambitious projects by visionary Japanese filmmakers with the unpredictable chemistry of young talents. Hitmaker Katsuyuki Motohiro adapts Mamoru Oshii's script The Dreamer into live action. Sara Ogawa, attracting international attention both as a newcomer actress and as a filmmaker, and Fuju Kamio, with a growing list of appearances, join promising young Japanese actors, while accomplished performers Takumi Saitoh, Sayaka Akimoto and Takeshi Masu add further distinction. Instead of a complete screenplay, the production uses kuchidate: establishing an outline and shaping performances through spoken discussion on set. The young actors' fresh performances reveal an authentic portrait of youth.

Story: Members of Senkatsu Art University's film club, who have never made a film, attempt to adapt a notorious script handed down through their club. True to the warning that something terrible always happens whenever anyone tries to film it, they encounter one unexpected difficulty and mishap after another. Can they make it safely to the end of shooting?

The set includes the film on Blu-ray and a bonus DVD. Video extras: trailers; Film Club Cross Talk Parts 1 and 2; making-of footage; and event footage covering the completed-film preview, a ceremony praying for the film's success and release commemorative stage greetings. No retailer-exclusive bonus is included.
