映画 BLUE GIANT Blu-ray スペシャル・エディション
Give everything you have to make this once-in-a-lifetime moment resound.
JASS's overwhelming performances sent audiences across Japan into a frenzy. BLUE GIANT brings the heat and intensity of youth to the screen, with a version refined across approximately two hundred shots.
The finest jazz performances bring its music to life. Original compositions for JASS and music throughout the film give its extraordinary live scenes, which occupy roughly a quarter of the film, the power of a first-rate jazz trio.
The hit manga began its run in Big Comic in 2013, and the series had surpassed eleven million copies in circulation by the film's release. Its exciting, moving story follows Dai Miyamoto's ambition to become the world's greatest jazz player. Its astonishing expression of music captivated readers, earning it a reputation as a manga whose sound you can hear.
The series won numerous honours, including the Manga Grand Prize at the twentieth Japan Media Arts Festival and the sixty-second Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category. It also influenced the real jazz scene and attracted praise from many prominent readers. This film marks its first screen adaptation.
With the wish to deliver real jazz at a cinema's greatest volume and finest sound, the story was brought to the screen as an animated film. After opening on February 17, enthusiastic audience responses spread beyond manga and jazz fans to reach a wide range of filmgoers. Despite its modest initial release, it passed one billion yen at the box office in under two months and continued on to exceed 1.2 billion yen.
Its momentum carried it to a special screening at Blue Note Tokyo in Aoyama on May 8, followed by a screening at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 16, where it was welcomed with applause. Its excitement reached audiences around the world.
"I'm going to become the world's greatest jazz player." Captivated by jazz, Sendai high-school student Dai Miyamoto takes up the tenor saxophone. Rain or wind, he spends years playing alone by the river every day.
After graduation, he moves to Tokyo for the sake of jazz and stays at the apartment of his former schoolmate Shunji Tamada. At a live music club, he encounters Yukinori Sawabe, a brilliantly skilled pianist of his own generation.
"Let's play together." Dai invites Yukinori to form a band. Yukinori initially refuses to take him seriously, but Dai's overpowering saxophone moves him, and the two join forces. Inspired by Dai's passion, Tamada begins playing drums and joins them. Together, the three form JASS.
Dai cannot read music and began with no knowledge of jazz, but he has always played with everything he has. Yukinori has devoted himself to jazz since childhood. Tamada is a beginner. Their goal is to perform at So Blue, Japan's greatest jazz club, and transform the country's jazz scene.
JASS grows as its members struggle towards this seemingly reckless ambition, gradually drawing attention. A performance at So Blue begins to seem possible, and their rapid rise appears set to continue. Then something completely unexpected happens...
A youth spent pouring every ounce of passion into music. What lies beyond it?
