Dear Strange Neighbor Blu-ray

A talent seen only once in ten years: the work by the youngest-ever winner of TV Asahi's New Screenwriter Award is adapted for television! Koki Kawasaki (Shonen Ninja/Johnny's Jr.) takes his first solo drama lead, acting alongside Ritsuki Daito (Johnny's Jr.) for the first time as they tackle an ambitious work considered difficult to bring to the screen.

High-school student Riku Yamamura, played by Kawasaki, awakens in a hospital bed several days after a hit-and-run accident. Immediately, two patients in the same room speak to him: high-school teacher Tatsuro Kuwabe, played by Kosuke Suzuki, and veteran voice actor Shukichi Kawaguchi, played by Sei Hiraizumi. Riku is bewildered. His accident has left him in a coma; Shukichi has been in the same condition for three years and Tatsuro for more than a year.

Although Riku has "awakened," he cannot move his body, and nobody realizes the three are conversing within their consciousness. Yet Tatsuro and Shukichi are remarkably cheerful for hospital patients, and their lively conversation takes Riku by surprise. The following morning brings a shocking incident that makes him painfully aware of his precarious situation: kept alive even if he wants to die, yet liable to die even if he wants to live.

Riku discovers that the poem Shukichi has been humming was written by his daughter, poet Fumiko, played by Noriko Iriyama. Tatsuro suggests that when Riku fully regains consciousness and returns to the outside world, he should ask her about it directly. But a certain reason prevents Riku from looking forward to waking up. Meanwhile, Tatsuro's son Yuta, played by Daito, also takes an interest in Fumiko's poem...
