Fake Mommy Blu-ray Box

Haru and Rina Kawaei star as two women who make an extraordinary agreement for a child's future. Kaoru Hanamura is a University of Tokyo graduate with an impressive career at Mitsuhashi Trading, yet she is struggling to find a new job after abruptly leaving the company. She insists she wants career advancement, an explanation that leaves even her recruitment agent baffled. Mamie Hidaka, the former delinquent who now runs RAINBOWLAB, has followed a very different path and is secretly raising her six-year-old daughter Iroha alone.

Although RAINBOWLAB turned Kaoru down for a job, Mamie offers her generous pay to tutor Iroha for an elementary-school entrance examination. Iroha behaves impeccably around her mother but becomes outspoken and difficult when she is alone with Kaoru, explaining why previous tutors kept quitting. After the first lesson, a mix-up with a babysitter leaves Iroha alone. Kaoru rushes back and finds the room in chaos and the child drawing on the walls. What she notices in the apparent disorder changes her understanding of Iroha.

Mamie's request that Kaoru attend the school interview in her place develops into a fake-mother arrangement, bringing lies, complications and conflicting ideas of family into both women's lives. Koji Mukai plays RAINBOWLAB's vice-president, and Ao Nakamura plays a teacher at the school. Aisa Ikemura portrays Iroha, whose exceptional intelligence lies behind her challenging behavior. The ensemble includes Kayo Noro, Manami Hashimoto, Kurumi Nakada, Atsuhiro Tsuda, Jiei Wakabayashi, Shuntaro Miyao, Daichi Asai, Miwako Kakei, Nana Asakawa, Go Riju, Mariko Tsutsui, Sho Kasamatsu and Minami Tanaka.

The drama grew out of a prize-winning screenplay from the first TBS Next Writers Challenge. Its production features director Jung Eun-hee and music by Hiroaki Tsutsumi, with Chanmina's specially written theme song "i love you" exploring love as life changes.

All ten episodes are included, with director's-cut versions of episodes 1, 2, 7, 8 and the finale. The 449-minute series occupies two Blu-ray discs, and a third disc contains 127 minutes of extras: making-of footage, a joint interview with Haru and Kawaei, individual interviews with Mukai and Nakamura, the special "i love you" collaboration video, Ryoma's and Iroha's photo collections, a memorial video and television spots. A 20-page booklet completes the box.

The series is presented in Japanese Linear PCM 2.0 stereo with Japanese accessibility subtitles for the main episodes.
