Frontline Blu-ray with Bonus DVD

A film based on real events. Yokohama, February 2020: what happened aboard that ship? Frontline tells the moving story of the people who confronted an unknown virus at the frontline of the pandemic experienced around the world.

A luxury cruise ship, the Diamond Princess, arrives at Yokohama with three thousand seven hundred and eleven passengers and crew from fifty-six countries. A passenger who disembarked in Hong Kong has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Infection has already spread aboard the ship, and more than a hundred passengers are reporting symptoms.

The Disaster Medical Assistance Team, known as DMAT, receives a request to deploy. Its members are specialists in responding to earthquakes, floods and other disasters, but they have neither experience nor training in dealing with this unknown virus. DMAT teams consist of doctors, nurses and medical administrative personnel with specialist training to begin working at the scene of a major disaster or accident within roughly forty-eight hours.

At the response headquarters, DMAT chief Hideharu Yuki and health-ministry official Nobutaka Tatematsu direct the operation. On board, physician Yukiyoshi Sendo, an old friend of Yuki, and DMAT member Haruto Sanada, who has decided to leave his beloved family behind and board the ship, take on the response. They are joined by Hatori and the other crew members and passengers.

These are the people at a frontline that had never previously been reported in the media. They risk their own lives against an unknown virus for which no treatment is known. As heated reporting by television journalist Ueno and other media outlets whips up public opinion, the people aboard the despairing ship do not even know what tomorrow will bring. Yet none of them gives up: they continue until everyone can disembark and regain their irreplaceable everyday lives.

The accompanying extras include making-of footage and event footage from the Japan premiere, both opening-day stage greetings and the Osaka stage greeting, alongside the teaser and theatrical trailer. A booklet accompanies the release.
