Hare+Guu OVA Guu Box Blu-ray + CD

Hare and Guu’s chaotic adventures return in this Blu-ray collection, released for the television anime’s twentieth anniversary. The series marked Tsutomu Mizushima’s first work as a director and became a landmark of animated comedy. The Guu Box brings together all twenty-six OVA episodes from Deluxe and Final in digitally remastered HD. The television episodes belong to the separate Hare Box.

Hare lives with his mother Weda in a jungle village. Although the villagers hunt and gather their food, their values are much like those of city dwellers, and their log cabins contain televisions and game consoles. Then Guu arrives: a charming girl on the outside, but something altogether more monstrous within.

On their first encounter, Guu swallows Hare whole. Inside her, he discovers another world—and even people living there. After she spits him back out, Hare finds himself sharing his home with a girl who shows her true nature only to him, while everyone else sees an adorable child. His days become a private struggle to protect the villagers from Guu’s unpredictable behavior.

Original creator Renjuro Kindaichi provides new illustrations for the box and inner jacket, accompanied by a booklet. The set also reissues the OVA Deluxe Special CD, Jungle Tsushin Deluxe. Deluxe video supplements include the rare pilot film and its trailer, creditless opening and ending sequences, and the trailer for rental-video volume two. Final includes its creditless opening and ending.
