Hodonaku, Owakare desu Deluxe Edition Blu-ray

Misora Shimizu has faced rejection after rejection in her job search, unable to find where she belongs. She also carries a secret: she can hear the voices of people who have died. When funeral planner Reiji Urushibara recognizes her gift, he urges her to use it and brings her into Bando Kaikan as an intern.

Urushibara's exacting, apparently cold instruction nearly overwhelms Misora, but she begins to see how sincerely he cares for the dead and their families. His gentle farewell as each coffin departs becomes something she admires. Together they help a husband who has lost his pregnant wife, parents grieving their young daughter, and a man who could not be present when the person he loved died. Each funeral asks them to consider not only the needs of the bereaved but also what would satisfy the deceased. Misora decides to become a funeral planner herself, while Urushibara gradually learns to trust her. Their work connects those leaving with those left behind, searching for the meaning of a truly fitting goodbye.

Minami Hamabe and Ren Meguro lead this adaptation of Amane Nagatsuki's novel series. Takahiro Miki directs a screenplay by Takaaki Honda, supervised by Yoshikazu Okada, with music by Seiji Kameda and Aoi Teshima's performance of Amazing Grace as the theme song. The cast also includes Misato Morita, Kotone Furukawa, Takumi Kitamura, Mirai Shida, Keisuke Watanabe, Yuko Araki, Maho Nonami, Sho Nishigaki, Shiori Kubo, Taizo Harada, Ken Mitsuishi, Kosuke Suzuki, Hiromi Nagasaku and Mari Natsuki.

The deluxe edition contains three Blu-rays. The main disc pairs the 125-minute film with teasers, trailers, the post-release promotional video, television spots and episode promotional videos. The first bonus disc includes making-of footage, special interviews with Hamabe and Meguro, a director interview, a conversation between the two leads, and a three-way discussion about filming the encoffining ceremony. Deleted material includes a director's cut of Misora's training and the director's version of Urushibara's ceremony. The second bonus disc collects the completion press conference, premiere, opening-day and hit-celebration stage greetings, plus the release commemorative television special. A special slipcase houses the discs with a 24-page booklet and two visual cards featuring Misora and Urushibara.
