Let your life burn, and live. The continuation of the dream begins.
Japan's number-one live-action domestic film of 2022, as reported in October 2022, brings together Kento Yamazaki and an outstanding cast. An action entertainment epic surpassing the scale of its predecessor arrives on Blu-ray after exceeding five billion yen at the Japanese box office.
The long-awaited second film adapts Yasuhisa Hara's nationally popular manga, whose cumulative circulation exceeded 92 million copies as of October 2022. Following the first film's recapture of the throne, this instalment depicts the Battle of Dakan Plains against the neighbouring state of Wei. As with the previous film, the original author personally participates in writing the screenplay, helping deliver an even greater scale and intensity.
Kento Yamazaki, Ryo Yoshizawa, Kanna Hashimoto, Nana Seino, Etsushi Toyokawa, Takao Osawa and other major actors assemble for the production. Mr. Children's original theme song, Ikiro, accompanies the film's expansive world and story.
Story: the time is before the Common Era, in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. In Qin, a state in the west of China, Shin has grown up as a war orphan. He meets the young king Eisei, driven from his throne by his younger brother's coup. The king looks exactly like Hyo, Shin's childhood friend, with whom he swore to become a great general before they were separated by Hyo's death. Shin lends the king his strength and infiltrates the palace with Karyoten and Yotanwa, queen of the mountain people. He defeats the formidable opponents in his path, suppresses the civil conflict and succeeds in recapturing the throne. Yet this is only the beginning of an immense struggle.
Six months later, sudden news reaches the palace: the neighbouring state of Wei has crossed the border and begun an invasion. Under King Eisei's command, Qin raises an army to confront Wei on the decisive battlefield of Dakan Plains. Shin sets off for his first battle as an infantryman and meets Bihei and Bito, brothers from his home village. With no battle record of his own, Shin ends up in the weakest five-man unit alongside the brothers, the unreliable squad leader Takukei who was left unselected, and a person calling themselves Kyokai, with a childlike appearance and sorrowful eyes.
Wei's commander-in-chief is General Gokei, a brilliant strategist and genius of warfare said to rival Qin's former Six Great Generals. Qin's commander-in-chief, General Hyoko, is a fierce commander who plunges straight ahead and spends his days in warfare and drink. By the time Shin and his companions reach the battlefield, Wei has occupied the advantageous hill, and some Qin units have already lost more than half of their infantry. The situation is disastrous. Although Qin has fallen completely behind, Bakukoshin, commander of the unit to which Shin is assigned, gives an apparently reckless order to charge.
