Kototsurugi - Grand Sumo Illustration Collection is the first illustration collection devoted to former wrestler and sumo artist Junya Kototsurugi. Realistic portraits of wrestlers active at the time and celebrated retired competitors appear beside stylized character illustrations and scenes drawn from his experience inside the sport.
Illustrated rankings and calendar pictures lead into a retrospective of his work, including magazine and newspaper illustrations, designs used on sumo goods and rarely seen wedding welcome boards. The selection also documents the creation of a wrestler's ceremonial apron.
Interviews with sumo elders, messages from wrestlers and figures beyond the sport, and a contribution by writer Mineko Nomachi pay tribute to the artist. Published by Hobby Japan, this Japanese-language collection contains 127 pages.
