Can falling in love become a contractual offence? Koji Fukada's drama follows Mai Yamaoka, the centre of rising idol group Happy Fanfare, as an unexpected reunion with former classmate Kei Mayama develops into a relationship. Torn between her agency's no-dating rule and her own feelings, Mai makes an impulsive decision. Eight months later, the agency sues her, and she must face its president and chief manager in court.
Inspired by an actual lawsuit and selected for Cannes Premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, the film stars Kyoko Saito and Yuki Kura, with Erika Karata and Kenjiro Tsuda. It examines the demands placed on an idol's public image and the cost of trying to control a person's private life.
The feature Blu-ray includes teasers, trailers and television spots. A separate DVD contains a making-of documentary; footage from Cannes, Busan and Tokyo film festivals; opening-day and Happy Fanfare live stage greetings; the Paris HANABI PRESENTS THE JAP'N POP EVENING event; the group's "Byosoku Lover" music video; a conversation between Kenjiro Tsuda and Koji Fukada; and deleted scenes. The two discs are housed in a slipcase.
