Manga Mito Komon Complete Series Blu-ray Box

Manga Mito Komon — Memories of Anime Library, Collection 123

You know him: the realm's vice-shogun, Lord Mitsukuni of Mito, also known as Mito Komon! The animated account of his travels finally makes its long-awaited Blu-ray debut to mark the 40th anniversary of its broadcast. The bonus selection includes the previously unreleased Manga Mito Komon pilot and rare pilots for two elusive Knack projects: the Japanese folktales Kasa Jizo and Issun Boshi.

About the series Based on the timelessly popular travels of Mito Komon, this spirited historical adventure animation follows the familiar champion of ordinary people as he boldly confronts wrongdoing. His companion Suke-san is scholarly and handsome. Kaku-san is strong, impulsive and comic in character. The little ninja Sutemaru and the adorable Okoto-chan join the group, solving incidents wherever their journey takes them. The series originally aired from September 3, 1981, to July 15, 1982, on Tokyo Channel 12, now TV Tokyo, and other stations.

Highlights The original negative film was restored and transferred through HD negative telecine to create the HD remaster for this Blu-ray release. This is the only animated version to follow the format of the live-action historical drama Mito Komon. The rare pilot selection includes the first public release of the Manga Mito Komon pilot, alongside the Kasa Jizo and Issun Boshi pilots from Knack's elusive Japanese folktale projects. Character designs are by Keisuke Morishita, whose credits include Great Mazinger. The legendary television anime attracted renewed attention through appearances on variety programmes and elsewhere. Its theme song, with the memorable refrain about sword fighting, also leaves a lasting impression. The dubbed version broadcast in Iran became popular as the Japanese hero Michikoman.
