Medalist Animation

There is a dream worth staking two lives on! The hugely popular figure-skating manga Medalist finally receives its long-awaited anime adaptation. Serialised in Afternoon, it took first place in the comics category of the Next Manga Awards 2022 and also won the general category of the 48th Kodansha Manga Awards and the general readers category of the 68th Shogakukan Manga Awards. The television adaptation began airing in January 2025.

Tsukasa Akeuraji, a young man whose career as a skater ended in disappointment, meets Inori Yuitsuka, a girl who longs to enter the world of figure skating. Moved by the fierce determination she carries toward the rink, he volunteers to become her coach. As Inori’s talent begins to blossom and Tsukasa grows as an instructor, the two join forces to reach the glory of becoming medalists.

The story depicts the passion and effort poured into figure skating with both dynamic energy and delicate expression. Inori is a fifth-grade girl with a burning passion for skating and the goal of winning an Olympic gold medal. Tsukasa has the ability and experience of having competed in ice dance at the Japan Championships, and her enthusiasm inspires him to coach. Hikaru Kamizaki, a girl of Inori’s age known as a prodigy, becomes both the goal she admires and a rival she hopes one day to face. Jun Yodaka is an Olympic gold medalist in men’s singles who retired from competition at twenty, yet remains a brilliant skater whose influence on Tsukasa is profound.
