Melody to Midnight gathers enduring Japanese songs from the 1970s and 1980s into a continuous original-recording mix by DJ Kazu. It arrives alongside Melody to Highway as the thirty-ninth and fortieth releases in his mix-CD series, which has sold more than 2.1 million copies in total.
Drawing from different record labels, Midnight focuses on a programme suited to late-night listening, including Olivia o Kikinagara, Koibito yo and Koi ni Ochite -Fall in love-. The compilation revisits the Showa era through familiar melodies rather than newly recorded covers.
Showa-music enthusiast and comedian Tomochika appears on the paired albums' covers as a snack-bar hostess on and off duty. She recalled wanting to hear these songs on repeat, inviting older listeners to revisit their memories while younger generations discover the music with fresh ears.
