Munto Series — Blu-ray BOX, Limited Production Edition

The television series The World Reflected in the Eyes of a Girl Looking Up at the Sky and the theatrical feature The Last Battle of the Celestials and the Akutonians finally come to Blu-ray! The completely original Munto animation series stands at the roots of Kyoto Animation. Its first chapter, MUNTO, was released on DVD in March 2003, followed in April 2005 by the second chapter, MUNTO: Beyond the Walls of Time. In January 2009, new footage was added to the first two productions and combined with a completely new third chapter. With a new cast and music and newly recorded sound, this became the nine-episode original television series The World Reflected in the Eyes of a Girl Looking Up at the Sky. The theatrical Munto feature The Last Battle of the Celestials and the Akutonians followed. It reconstructs the television series' climax, from the latter half of episode six through the finale, adding new footage and renewing the sound and music for a special edition. Beginning with the meeting between heroine Yumemi Hidaka and Munto, a king from another world, the story depicts Yumemi's emotional growth as she confronts the world's collapse. When people face the true shape of their own hearts, they can take a new step forward. Whether a hopeful world is created or destroyed, the human heart lies at its foundation. This is a fantasy into which Kyoto Animation poured its full effort, confronting the human heart directly.

Rich extras drawn from archived materials Alongside the opening storyboard gallery and web-radio selection included for the first time, the booklet contains re-edited contemporary articles from Kyoto Animation's web magazine KyoAni BON. The set also includes a special key-animation book that lets viewers enjoy the distinctive movement of animation. The jacket illustration is newly drawn.

Story Since early childhood, middle-school student Yumemi has carried a troubling secret: floating islands in the sky that only she can see. To avoid seeing those islands, she gradually stopped looking at the sky. Then, one day, a red-haired boy suddenly appears before her. His name is Munto. He says he comes from the magical kingdom of the celestial world, the floating-island world that Yumemi has seen. Long ago, the balance between the celestial and terrestrial worlds was maintained by the circulation of an all-purpose power called Akuto. But an ancient calamity closed space and time and severed that circulation. Akuto in the celestial world is running out, and its countries are facing disappearance. If this continues, the terrestrial world's Akuto will eventually be exhausted too, bringing destruction to the world. Munto, king of the magical kingdom, approaches Yumemi, entrusting his last hope to the girl who holds every key. Yumemi is bewildered by the sudden arrival of a king from another world. Can the two save the world from its crisis? Two destinies that meet across distant space and time now begin to move!
