In the first game, a descendant of Erdrick travels alone through Alefgard to defeat the Dragonlord and free its people from the monsters that have overrun their land.

Dragon Quest II follows Erdrick's royal descendants as they unite against a new army of monsters. The Princess of Cannock joins the returning heroes for a four-person party, exploring towns, castles, caves and towers before a ship opens up seas and rivers. Both adventures feature familiar turn-based command battles, with weapons, spells and special abilities to overcome enemies.
