Nippon Sangoku Stage Production Blu-ray

The first adaptation into another medium of the much-discussed manga Nippon Sangoku, a story about reunifying Japan in an age of three rival kingdoms. Daisuke Nishida, writer and director of the stage production The Blue Wolves of Mibu, joins leading actor Shohei Hashimoto, who starred in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Part Five, Assault on the Swordsmith Village, to bring it to the stage.

The acclaimed near-future chronicle of a new age of warring states comes to the theatre. Daisuke Nishida and Shohei Hashimoto raise the curtain on the legend of an extraordinary military strategist. Ikka Matsuki's manga has been serialised since 2021 in Shogakukan's Manga One app and Ura Sunday web-comic site.

This fictional war chronicle follows the young Aoteru Misumi as he aims to reunify Japan in a near future where civilisation has collapsed and the country has split into three nations. Its distinctive setting and realistic depiction have attracted attention and won high praise from fans of history and fictional military chronicles.

For their own causes and ambitions, what waits at the end of these manoeuvres: an age of peace, or something else? Witness this intense world where strategy and conspiracy intersect. Tense dialogue that only the stage can deliver and the living appeal of its varied characters create an immersive theatrical experience that moves both the eyes and the emotions.

Story In the near future, at the end of the Reiwa era, Japan continues its decline. A violent popular revolution destroys the state. Civilisation retreats to the level of the early Meiji period, and Japan effectively ceases to exist.

War begins again, and decades later the three nations of Yamato, Buo and Seii enter an age of three kingdoms, competing for supremacy.

It is winter in Yamato year 56. Aoteru Misumi, born in Yamato's Ehime district, works as an agricultural official and lives happily with his wife Saki. One day the powerful interior minister Denki Taira visits the town, terrifying its people with his dictatorial behaviour.

An incident during that visit leads Aoteru to swear that he will correct the corrupt government and build a peaceful world. Travelling alone to the capital Osaka to achieve the Toryumon selection and enter the service of frontier general Mitsuhide Ryumon, he encounters Yoshitsune Asama, who has the same goal.

Meanwhile, in Seii's northern territories, Oga Wajima leads a coup. Under its new government, Seii begins to show signs of a westward campaign against Yamato. The competing designs of the three nations stir, and the realm finally begins to move.

The legend of the man later acclaimed as an extraordinary strategist begins now.
