Oishii Kyushoku: Honoo no Shugaku Ryoko Blu-ray + DVD Set

In early summer 1990, Hakodate teacher Yukio Amarida still plans his days around school lunch. His quiet rivalry with student Ken, a gifted improviser of new ways to enjoy the menu, follows them onto a two-night, three-day school trip to Aomori and Iwate. While the trip is meant to broaden his pupils' horizons, Amarida is preoccupied with regional food. Even a bowl of senbei-jiru becomes the setting for another culinary challenge. Trouble with students from another school, a demanding fellow teacher and an unexpected reunion with former colleague Hitomi Misono complicate the journey, bringing both conflict and the possibility of romance.

Hayato Ichihara returns as Amarida, alongside Reina Takeda, Taiki Tazawa, Eishin, Jin Katagiri, Maiko Ito, Naomasa Musaka, Atsuko Takahata and Kazuki Kosakai. Shinya Ayabe directs this school comedy, taking its long-running contest over the pleasures of lunch beyond the classroom.

The set contains the 114-minute feature on Blu-ray and two bonus DVDs running 118 and 160 minutes. Their extras include a release commemorative television special, the making-of feature Ii Shoku, Tabidachi, stage greetings from the Hanamaki advance screening, the completion premiere, opening day and the film's success celebration, trailers and teasers, a collection of television spots, the Kunseiya Jukusei Wiener collaboration commercial, and an uncut, re-edited presentation of the school-assembly live act Lost of Agepan. A sticker sheet is enclosed. The feature has Japanese Linear PCM 5.1 audio and no subtitles.
