Once Upon a Witch's Death Anime

A seventeenth birthday should mark a new beginning. For apprentice witch Meg Raspberry, it brings the news that she has only a year to live. Her mentor Faust, an ageless witch counted among the world's Seven Sages, reveals that Meg has fallen under a deadly curse. To escape it, she must create a Seed of Life, an extraordinary source of immortality whose ingredients cannot be bought or conjured at will.

The seed requires tears of joy from a thousand people. Meg's search draws her into other people's lives, turning a frightening deadline into a succession of meetings, friendships and unexpected discoveries. Her childhood friend Fine, the wise witch Inori and Sophie, a prodigy who has joined the Seven Sages at Meg's own age, become part of this young witch's remarkable year. Once Upon a Witch's Death follows her efforts to make others happy while learning what it means to face her own uncertain future.

Yoshino Aoyama voices Meg, with Yoshiko Sakakibara as Faust, Hina Yomiya as Sophie, Rumi Okubo as Fine and Shizuka Ito as Inori. The cast also includes Atsumi Tanezaki as the mysterious girl, Yoko Hikasa as Eldora, Miharu Hanai as Carbuncle and Aina Suzuki as the snowy owl.

Volume 2 contains episodes 5-8, with approximately 94 minutes of main programme on one region-free Blu-ray. The original Japanese audio is presented in Linear PCM without subtitles. Permanent on-disc extras include cast audio commentary for episode 5 and the creditless opening and ending sequences. This volume forms the middle section of the series rather than a complete-series set.
