Paprika 20th Anniversary 4K UHD + Blu-ray Set

When the DC Mini, a revolutionary device that allows people to share dreams, is stolen from a psychiatric research institute, its researchers begin suffering strange dreams that invade their minds. Therapist Atsuko Chiba investigates by assuming the very different appearance and personality of Paprika, a dream detective who enters her clients' dreams to conduct secret therapy. Inside a dreamscape contaminated by disturbing images, a terrifying trap is waiting for her.

Satoshi Kon directs this adaptation of Yasutaka Tsutsui's novel, with animation by Madhouse and music by Susumu Hirasawa. The 2026 release celebrates the film's twentieth anniversary with a 4K restoration and a Japanese Dolby Atmos presentation on the UHD disc. Its mirrored outer case and digitray draw on Kon's recurring mirror and double motifs, reflecting the film's shifting boundaries between dreams, reality, identity and delusion. A reproduction of the original voice-recording script accompanies the two-disc set.

The UHD disc includes Restoring Paprika, an interview feature with members of the restoration team. The Blu-ray supplements explore the two versions of Paprika, offer a special discussion about dreams, examine the film's art and computer graphics, and break down its animation. Japanese and international trailers for the 4K restoration are included, together with an audio commentary by Kon and Hirasawa. Apart from the restoration interview and restored trailers, the supplementary material carries over from previous releases.

Megumi Hayashibara voices both Paprika and Atsuko Chiba, alongside Toru Emori as Seijiro Inui, Katsunosuke Hori as Torataro Shima, Toru Furuya as Kosaku Tokita, Akio Otsuka as Toshimi Konakawa and Koichi Yamadera as Morio Osanai. Seishi Minakami and Kon wrote the screenplay; Masashi Ando handled character design and animation direction, Ken Hashimoto color design, Nobutaka Ike art direction, Michiya Kato cinematography, Takeshi Seyama editing and Masafumi Mima sound direction.
