In 1929, a strange phenomenon suddenly transforms many people into nonhuman beings called Chimera. Its cause is an unknown virus brought by a meteorite that fell in the past, commonly called the Black Garnet.

Named the Chimera Virus, it causes a worldwide pandemic in which humanity loses three percent of its total population. In this emergency, the country of Wa adopts a policy of national isolation to prevent the virus entering from outside. The special agency ACID is organized to intercept the Chimera remaining within the country. As time passes, ACID establishes the Valkyrie special force to eradicate the Chimera that still threaten people.

The story

The unknown virus discovered in the Black Garnet gives infected beings intelligence exceeding that of humans and immense strength, but eats away at their minds and bodies until it transforms them into Chimera.

To oppose this imminent threat, ACID—the Anti Chimera Intercept Division—creates the Valkyrie special force. Asahi Shiramine is selected and takes up his post as commander of the newly established unit.

While heading to the base, Asahi is suddenly attacked by Chimera. With help from members of the force who rush to his aid, he successfully repels them. This unexpected first battle proves both the unit’s usefulness and Asahi’s abilities.

Asahi and the unit celebrate their victory. At that moment, however, they have no way of knowing the harsh fate awaiting them beyond it.

Chimera

Chimera are people or animals whose genetic structures have been rewritten by the unknown Chimera Virus, turning them into monsters. The infection grants extraordinary intelligence and power while destroying the mind and body.

Chimera attack people and introduce the virus through their wounds, producing new Chimera one after another. Infected people who may become Chimera are called Chimera candidates.

Valkyrie

Valkyrie is the code name of the anti-Chimera weapon T・C・S. The name was given because only people chosen by its system can wield it.

An ordinary person cannot handle this mass of steel. Through its authentication device and medication supplied by Valkyrie, the user’s body is strengthened enough to operate it.

The enhancing drugs have severe side effects. In people not selected by the system, rejection causes the body and mind to break down and can split the personality.

The unit

The Valkyrie special force belongs to the Anti Chimera Intercept Division, known as ACID, a special agency of the National Defense Self-Defense Army.
