A library club full of detours
“Why don't we make Shiomi Academy even more fun?”
Had she eaten something strange? That was what she—Tsugumi Shirasaki—said. There had been no lead-in. Before that, we had not even known each other. Shirasaki said it out of the blue.
“If that's what you want to discuss, I think you should take it up with the student council.” The words rose to my throat, but I—Kyotaro Kakei—pushed them back down into my stomach. It was a bad habit of mine.
A famous novel says that if you let feelings steer you, you will be swept away. Before long, that was exactly how I felt. Carried all the way down the river, drifting near its mouth, I found myself surrounded by others swept along in much the same way: Tamamo Sakuraba, Senri Misono, Kana Suzuki, Ikkei Takamine, and Nagi Kodachi, who somehow kept passing by.
The clubroom, once the perfect place to read, had become no different from a classroom at lunchtime.
“Um, about today's activities, the cafeteria…” Tsugumi Shirasaki begins with words I have heard many times before.
“Oh, speaking of which, have you tried the cafeteria's new menu?”
“Oh, Kana, you noticed her too? She's cute, isn't she? I like slender girls.”
“Don't change the subject. And Takamine, Suzuki isn't talking about a waitress. Nobody cares what your type is. In the first place…”
“Tamamo, now we're even further off topic… Look, Misono is giving us a scary look.”
“I'm glaring. So, Kakei-senpai, please give us a punchline that will really wake us up.”
“No, a punchline has nothing to do with this.”
Today, once again, another day of activities full of detours begins.
Meet the characters
Tsugumi Shirasaki
At the center of the Library Club, Tsugumi works to make the academy more enjoyable. She is not someone who pulls everyone along by force, but her earnest effort inspires others to help: a quiet, deep form of leadership. Gentle and so honest that those watching may squirm at their own shortcomings, she can also be a little stubborn. Her obvious reactions, such as pouting, often invite teasing from the other members.
Tamamo Sakuraba
The club's de facto organizer, Tamamo brings the members' wildly wandering conversations back to the task at hand. She supports Tsugumi while keeping wasted activity to a minimum. Serious, hardworking and strict with herself, she can nevertheless handle talk of romance and jokes, making her popular with both boys and girls.
Senri Misono
At first glance, Senri seems like a cool, detached younger student, but she is actually rather mischievous. With people she knows well, she sometimes shows affection in small ways, such as poking them lightly or pinching a sleeve. Despite her complaints, she attends club activities and enjoys each day, even if her face does not make it obvious. Her singing is among Japan's best, and she studies vocal music at the academy. She takes care of her throat and avoids spicy foods and other irritants.
Kana Suzuki
Bright and unreserved, Kana has the courage to start conversations even with people she has just met. She may wave from a distance and run over to friends, but uses polite language with older students, keeping her friendliness from becoming overfamiliar. No amount of teasing gets her down; she continually brightens the clubroom. She is the Library Club's true mood maker.
Nagi Kodachi
The protagonist's neighbor, Nagi sometimes visits his room to eat snacks or watch television, leaving him confused by behavior that can easily be misunderstood. Although she freely visits his room, she is very protective of her own. “A girl's room is full of strawberry-flavored secrets,” she says, refusing to show him inside. Elusive and changeable, she nevertheless sometimes makes calm, perceptive remarks. She may seem fearless, but is uncomfortable around animals in general—even a Chihuahua can frighten her.
Maho Mochizuki
Shiomi Academy's student council president is idealistic but enjoys strong support. To her, the academy exists to develop students' abilities; having joined with that understanding, they should work hard and improve one another. She works hard herself and expects the same from others. This is less a matter of naivety than of arguments so thoroughly correct that they leave little room for anyone else.
Aoi Takigawa
The student council vice president is a capable younger colleague valued by Maho Mochizuki, and is regarded as a likely next president. A little fastidious and idealistic, she can be inflexible. Her feelings toward Maho go beyond simple respect for an older colleague, and she is particularly hostile toward boys such as Kakei who get close to her.
Nozomi Toki
Cheerful and straightforward, Nozomi is popular with boys and girls, especially among girls, and has many friends. A leader among her companions, she heads the Cat Photography Club, whose two members make it the academy's smallest and weakest club. Growing up in a somewhat rough, sports-oriented household made her want to become a cool, stylish girl. She lives next door to her childhood friend Kei Kirishima, the club's other member.
Original physical contents of the Limited Edition
The edition originally included four physical extras. Their presence and completeness with a Used copy depend on that copy's contents.
- The supplementary edition of Bekkankou and Io Natsuno's Colorful Collection visual book, with commented color artwork, original illustrations, event and pin-up sketches, and a commented making-of feature for Kingyo Ichinoe. It supplements the PlayStation Vita edition's book with newly added images.
- A set of twelve newly illustrated coasters featuring the main and supporting heroines, suitable for use or display. The designs match those of the PlayStation Vita extras.
- Kingyo Ichinoe's goodnight voice CD, in which the legendary shepherd attempts to lull you to sleep with her storytelling.
- Kingyo's After Party, an original novel by Taku Sakakibara filled with the new heroine's after-story, continuing the experience after the main game. Its contents match the PlayStation Vita edition's extra.
