A boy encounters his destiny

Kagami Island—the island closest to the sky.

On this island stand Lake Suikyo, which reflects the sky like a mirror, and Kagami Academy, whose symbolic great cherry tree towers over the grounds.

Soma Kujo, a student at Kagami Academy, enjoys a noisy but happy school life with Menoa Yasaka, his childhood friend and queenly companion in an inseparable relationship; Yukina Tokisaka, his big sister and the student council president; Akari Shirakawa, an elegant young lady seemingly beyond his reach; Kako Yasaka, Menoa's younger sister, who looks up to him as a brother; and the mysterious, well-informed Suginami.

At Kagami Academy grows a strange cherry tree that the students affectionately call the Cherry Tree of Weighed Thoughts. It shows the students' collective wishes regarding events at the academy, making it invaluable to these festival-loving students.

When a “weighing”—Hakari-goto—takes place on an issue that interests everyone, students wear either a white or a black cape over their uniforms and let the cherry tree bring their thoughts together. This is how decisions are made at the academy.

The latest topic is whether this year's Kagami Festival should be a cultural festival or a sports festival. The cultural and sports clubs compete to promote their sides ahead of the student council's weighing, each eager to secure an opportunity to shine. It is a familiar scene in school life.

Then, one day, Soma visits Lake Suikyo. Before his eyes, “another cherry tree”, which has not flowered for years, begins to glow and blossom.

As he looks up at the sky, a girl descends among the drifting cherry petals.

“So, you are...”

The mysterious girl, Mizuha Sakuragi, whispers.

A boy and a girl meet, and destiny begins to move.

As cherry blossoms dance out of season, the story of these boys and girls opens its curtain.
