A new chapter in The World Ends with You

The follow-up to The World Ends with You, originally released in 2007, arrives on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, with a PC version also offered through the Epic Games Store.

The protagonist, Rindo, forms a team with his companions and challenges the Reapers' Game with their lives on the line. Combine the team's psychic abilities in battle to unleash exhilarating action.

Enjoy a newly told story that retains the series' appeal, from its distinctive artistic recreation of Shibuya to the background music that colours the game.

Story

Shibuya should have been just the same as always. Yet for Rindo, something about the city that day seems different—perhaps something is wrong.

A psychic battle begins at the scramble crossing. Just when Rindo thinks he has escaped it, a girl appears before him and introduces herself as a Reaper.

“Welcome to the Reapers' Game,” she says.

Surely a game cannot put them through anything terrible. Rindo and his friend Fret join lightheartedly, but once the game begins, both start to feel that something is amiss.

Battles against monsters called Noise, pins that grant mysterious powers and the game's stage, Shibuya's UG—the Underground—gradually deepen Rindo's unease.

This Shibuya is no ordinary place. The bewildered pair discover a rule: fail to win, and their very existence will be erased. In this other Shibuya, they must compete against other participants, take the top rank and survive. Can they return to the Shibuya they knew?

The Reapers' Game

The game unfolds in the UG, a dimension similar to the real world yet different from it. Participants form teams and work to complete missions issued by Game Master Shiba.

Missions range from solving puzzles to defeating the enemy Noise. Sometimes teams clash directly in battles to claim territory and occupy areas.

The game lasts seven days. Earn points through missions and become the top team, and you are told that any wish can come true. Finish last, however, and every member of the team is erased.

What matters most is strength as a team. Can Rindo and his Wicked Twisters hold their own against the other teams, each with their own troublesome personalities?

Rindo—voiced by Yuma Uchida

“Is this the same as that time? Does that mean I can change fate...?”

A participant in the Reapers' Game, Rindo is a high-school boy who likes looking up all sorts of information on his smartphone.

He reads the mood around him before acting. He does not actively seek to get involved with others, but does not reject them either. Suddenly drawn into the game without understanding what is happening, he becomes leader of the Wicked Twisters.

Fret—voiced by Chiharu Sawashiro

“Looks like we've got no choice but to aim for the top from here.”

Rindo's easygoing classmate joins the Reapers' Game with him. Fret enjoys cheerful conversation and has a talent for getting along with anyone.

On the other hand, he dislikes a heavy atmosphere and unconsciously avoids serious discussions. Rindo is lively enough to go along with his mood and accompanies him on walks around Shibuya; the two are good friends.

Nagi—voiced by Mina Katahira

“What Reapers' Game? It's ☆200, I say!”

Nagi is another participant in the game. She is a university student living in Shibuya, although people sometimes mistake her for a middle-school student because of her appearance.

Her passion for her hobbies is so great that it is no exaggeration to say she lives for them. She is good at discerning people's emotions and treats those whose superficial responses conceal their true intentions coldly.

Minamimoto—voiced by Takayuki Fujimoto

“It's mission time, you zeptograms.”

A participant with extraordinary psychic powers, Minamimoto rescues Rindo and his companions when they are in danger, then forcefully makes himself part of their team.

He appears to calculate every possible future using his own formulas and act according to the resulting values, although nobody around him can understand his reasoning. His sharp gaze also seems to be fixed somewhere different from Rindo and the others.

Explore Shibuya

The story takes place in Shibuya, a district of Tokyo, Japan. Rendered in the game's own distinctive style, the city also includes real buildings and landmarks. Explore this Shibuya expressed through unique artwork.

Comic-style event scenes

Event scenes use a comic-book style that keeps the story moving at a lively pace. Look out for the exchanges between the characters.

Pins that hold the key to the game

The Reaper pin is proof that its holder has been accepted into the Reapers' Game; it can also be called a player pin.

It grants essential powers such as Scan, which are needed to clear the game, and can also draw out special psychic abilities.

Scan: a psychic ability that reads people's minds

Use Scan in the city by pressing its designated button. In this state, you can see what people are thinking and reveal the enemy Noise.

Control your team to defeat the Noise

Each team member can equip one pin. Pressing the button assigned to that pin activates the character's psychic ability, producing exhilarating psychic battles through simple controls.

Change the powers each character uses in battle by changing their pins. There are more than 300 different pins with varied effects, including attacks, healing and support.

Music

Takeharu Ishimoto, who also composed for the previous game, provides the music that colours this adventure. Alongside new tracks, the soundtrack includes arrangements of songs from the original The World Ends with You, such as “Twister” and “Calling”.
