Shin Megami Tensei Atlus

A legend is reborn

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, celebrated as one of the series' finest games, returns on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. At the time of this release, the Shin Megami Tensei series had sold more than 17 million copies worldwide across physical and digital editions.

This remaster is based on Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne Maniax Chronicle Edition. Respect for the original underpins improvements to its graphics and gameplay.

Its captivating artistry, the messages in its story that resonate with modern society, and its accomplishment as an RPG remain undiminished. Whether you are a returning fan or playing for the first time, experience its overwhelming world of demons.

“Tokyo died, and I was born”

Tokyo, in the year 200X. The day should have been just another fragment of ordinary life, with many more to follow.

The protagonist is an ordinary boy attending a high school in Tokyo. With classmates Isamu Nitta and Chiaki Tachibana, he visits a hospital in Shinjuku to see their hospitalized teacher, Yuko Takao.

The hospital is unsettlingly empty, wrapped in a strange silence. While searching for Yuko, the boy encounters a mysterious man named Hikawa seated before a bizarre apparatus, and senses that his life is in danger. Yuko stops Hikawa and protects the boy. With a sorrowful expression, she tells him:

“Soon, this world will sink into chaos. That is the Conception... a rebirth of the world unlike anything humanity has ever experienced.”

The Tokyo Conception brings the world to its end. Caught in this sudden catastrophe, the protagonist, Isamu and Chiaki are separated.

Japan's capital is transformed into another world, with the land curved into the inside of a sphere around a mysterious light. With only a few survivors remaining, it becomes the home of demons from mythology and folklore.

While unconscious, the boy receives Magatama from a mysterious blond child and an old woman: the power he will need to survive.

When he awakens alone in a hospital room, his body has been reborn as a demon.

In this transformed Tokyo, he commits his transformed self to a journey of battle, weaving a story of choices and conflicts over the creation of a new world. The weighty narrative changes according to the protagonist's decisions, offering an experience unlike other games.

Press Turn battles and demon companions

Press Turn is the starting point of a battle-system lineage inherited by later Atlus titles, including a derivative system in Persona 5. Exploit an opponent's weaknesses to gain the advantage in a system that is simple to grasp yet deep in its possibilities.

Negotiate with demons to make them allies who fight beside you, or fuse demons together to create new ones. Demon negotiation, development, fusion and a story shaped by your choices are defining features of the series. Master them to survive Tokyo.

Improvements unique to the HD remaster

Significantly improved graphics present the game's world with clearer visuals.

Event scenes gain voice performances by accomplished actors, deepening immersion in the story. Voices can be switched on or off.

Normal and Hard are included as standard difficulty options. Merciful, a new, exceptionally forgiving difficulty, can be added through free DLC, allowing newcomers to immerse themselves in the story with confidence. Experienced players and beginners can choose a difficulty that matches their style.

A suspend-save function also makes it easier to play in whatever free time you have.
