The landmark tactical RPG is reborn

In 2022, the landmark tactical RPG Tactics Ogre underwent further evolution and was reborn.

Based on Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, released in Japan in 2010, this new Tactics Ogre modernizes not only graphics and sound but also the underlying game design.

Those who have played Tactics Ogre before can experience something that surpasses their memories, while newcomers can discover an experience unlike anything they have played before.

The game has been reborn for the modern era in a form that lets players enjoy its story world more deeply.

Prologue

Valeria lies in the Obero Sea.

Long prosperous as a crossroads of maritime trade, the island was continually torn by conflicts between ethnic groups struggling for supremacy.

One man brought those long struggles to an end: Dorgalua, later known as the Dynast-King.

King Dorgalua worked to eliminate the antagonism between the peoples, and Valeria prospered for half a century.

After the king's death, however, three ethnic groups fought over his succession: the aristocratic Bakram, the Galgastani who made up most of the population, and the minority Walister. Valeria once again descended into civil war.

The conflict appeared to settle temporarily as the Bakram and Galgastani camps divided the island between them. Yet everyone knew this quiet would be short-lived.

Denam Pavel

“Can I dirty my hands for the sake of my ideals...?”

Japanese voice: Tomoaki Maeno. A Walister, aged 18.

The protagonist of this game. When the Dark Knights attacked the port town of Golyat, his father Prancet was abducted.

Afterward, as a member of the Walister Resistance, he carries out guerrilla operations against the Bakram and Galgastani camps together with his older sister Catiua and his childhood friend Vyce.

He has a strong sense of justice and the determination to put his ideals into action. At the same time, he is thoughtful and sometimes agonizes over the meaning of fighting.

Catiua Pavel

“Promise me you won't leave your sister. All right?”

Japanese voice: Lynn. A Walister, aged 19, born on the fifteenth day of the Month of the Dark Dragon.

Denam's older sister. Having lost her mother when she was young, she has lived with her father and younger brother ever since.

She lavishes excessive affection on Denam. Under the guidance of her father, who is a priest, she has trained as a priestess and participates in guerrilla operations with Denam and their childhood friend Vyce.

She does so less out of devotion to an ideal than out of fear of losing her younger brother.

Vyce Bozeck

“I'm not fighting because I want to. I just don't want to die for nothing.”

Japanese voice: Noriaki Sugiyama. A Walister, aged 18, born on the fourteenth day of the Month of the Divine Dragon.

His father, his only remaining family member, was killed by the Dark Knights, leaving him entirely alone.

He deeply resents the oppression of the Walister and actively participates in guerrilla operations.

A man of action, he and Denam have a relationship in which each complements the other.

Improved visual presentation

Alongside higher-resolution graphics, the interface has been redesigned for greater ease of use.

The characters and backgrounds, whose depictions already boasted exceptional quality in the original Tactics Ogre, have been rendered at higher resolution. Their presentation is enhanced while preserving the carefully drawn pixel-art texture that gives the game its character.

The interface has been renewed beyond simply increasing resolution, with attention to making information easier to understand and simplifying the steps required to operate it.

Improved sound presentation

Fully voiced cutscenes, rebuilt sound effects and background music re-recorded with live performances enhance the story.

Fully voiced cutscenes and reconstructed sound effects make the substantial ensemble drama, populated by characters with many different beliefs, even more immersive while also making battle scenes feel more immediate.

Both Japanese and English voice tracks are included. You can switch between them at any time through the in-game settings.

Remade battle design

Battle design has been remade, including character development and battle AI.

The strongest elements of the original Tactics Ogre and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together have been adopted, while new elements have been introduced to remake the battle design. The following is one example.

Levels managed separately for each unit

The system in Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together that managed levels for each class has been changed to a system that manages levels for individual units.

For each unit, consider how growth changes with its class and how to combine equipment, skills and magic. Then decide which combination of units to bring into battle. This lets you enjoy the pleasure of planning in a straightforward way.

PlayStation 5 upgrade support

The Japanese PlayStation 4 physical edition supports upgrading to the PlayStation 5 version.
