Valkyria Chronicles, the inventive strategy RPG series with more than one million copies sold worldwide at the time of this announcement, returns with a new story and new characters. It portrays human drama through war in a fictional Europe.

The distinctive CANVAS rendering system, resembling hand-drawn illustrations, and the innovative BLiTZ battle system, combining strategy and action, evolve further through newer technology. A new pinnacle of the series that shook the world arrives.

“That war was our youth”

In 1935, Europe is divided between the Federation, a union of republics, and the Empire, an autocratic monarchy.

Struggling against the Empire's overwhelming material resources, the Federation launches Operation Northern Cross, a major counteroffensive intended to turn the tide through a surprise attack on the Imperial capital.

Claude, serving in the Federation army's Squad E, sees his determination tested by his bonds with companions, the hopes entrusted to him and the sacrifices demanded by the operation.

The game depicts a sorrowful yet passionate youth that could only have existed amid the fires of war.

CANVAS: hand-drawn illustrations moving in 3D

CANVAS brings moving watercolour illustrations to life. Its pursuit of a more hand-drawn appearance and greater visual density evolves into a warm yet finely detailed presentation.

Displaced outlines, colours extending beyond their borders, diagonally hatched shadows and sound effects appearing as written text create a distinctive game world and draw players into its story.

BLiTZ: strategy meets action

The battle system combining strategy and action evolves in numerous ways, including the series' largest maps, increased unit numbers and a new soldier class.

Artillery interception adds immediacy to the battlefield. Actively move characters through the field, repel enemy troops and experience crossing the battlefield in real time.

Original demo announcement

The original manufacturer announcement described an opening demo distributed through PlayStation Store. It allowed play through the end of the main scenario's second chapter. Completing it unlocked an extra mission.

This extra mission focused on the new Grenadier class and offered a substantial opportunity to experience artillery interception.

Transferring demo save data into the full game could also award the Volunteer Certificate accessory, which strengthens infantry-unit statistics. The original announcement invited players to try the demo and reserve the game; it does not establish current demo availability.
