Private Detective Hama Mike Harukana Jidai no Kaidan wo Stage Blu-ray

The Private Detective Hama Mike film series returns in its second stage adaptation, Harukana Jidai no Kaidan wo. Following the 2021 reading play and the 2022 stage production of The Most Terrible Time in My Life, this new production marks thirty years since the film’s release.

The production was performed at Sunshine Theatre in Tokyo from February 6 to 11, 2025, at COOL JAPAN PARK OSAKA TT Hall from February 15 to 16, and at Winc Aichi in Nagoya from February 22 to 23.

Detective Mike Hama’s office occupies the second floor of a cinema in Yokohama’s Koganecho district. The jobs that come his way are invariably uninspiring. Then he hears a rumour that his mother Lily, who abandoned Mike and his sister Akane when they were small, has returned to town. Without telling Akane, Mike goes to see her. He is furious when Lily says that she wants to introduce herself to Akane as her mother.

Meanwhile, a struggle over control of the river breaks out in town. It is ruled by the White Man, an untouchable figure whom neither the police nor the yakuza can challenge. Anyone who intrudes on his territory is eliminated by his gang.

Another victim is found. Nakayama of the Isezaki police station knows who is responsible but cannot obtain evidence. He intimidates Mike into watching Sachiko, the mother of Akane’s classmate Kyoko, who is believed to have links to the White Man. When Mike exposes those connections, she is murdered and her death is made to look like drowning.

Mike’s own life is threatened. After Lily tells him that the White Man is his real father, he disregards the danger and follows Mary, a legendary prostitute, into the White Man’s hideout. Mike demands the truth, but the White Man evades his questions.

Their confrontation is settled by Russian roulette. The White Man falls, and the anguished cries of his subordinate Sugimoto echo through the hideout.

The additional making-of footage includes scenes from rehearsals and the curtain call at the final performance.
