Living in Tokyo, struggling actor Phillip Vanderploeg feels at home in Japan but increasingly uncertain about his place in the world. An unusual job offers him a new role: working for a rental-family service, he enters strangers' lives as a temporary relative or friend. As these performances become entangled with real emotions, Phillip begins to rediscover the pleasure of living and the significance of the connections people make.
HIKARI directs Brendan Fraser alongside Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Akira Emoto and Shannon Mahina Gorman in a story filmed entirely in Japan. Its humour and tenderness come from the distance between a part someone is paid to play and the relationship that grows beyond it.
This set contains the 110-minute film on Blu-ray and DVD. Blu-ray extras include a making-of documentary and nine deleted scenes: "Columbus," "Crying Session," "Apology," "Aiko's First Customer," "Clear Bright," "Ticket," "Audition," "Voicemail" and "What Happened to Them Afterward."
