Sentenced to Be a Hero Anime

Are they heroes who will save the world, or extraordinary sinners? The long-awaited television anime adaptation of a much-discussed, award-winning work arrives on Blu-ray!

Rocket Shokai's novel Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004 is a dark fantasy about criminals condemned to the punishment called Hero, and their battles against the Demon King's army. Serialisation began on the Kakuyomu fiction site in October 2020; the first book, illustrated by Mephisto, was published by KADOKAWA's Dengeki no Shin Bungei in September 2021.

The work placed first in the user-recommendation division of the Kakuyomu User Award at Kakuyomu Awards 2020 and second overall in the Next Light Novel Award 2021. Takarajimasha's This Light Novel Is Amazing!2023 ranked it third in the standalone-book and novels category and fifth among new works overall, making it the highest-ranking new standalone-book title. Its long-awaited television anime adaptation begins the penal heroes' fierce battle against despair.

Story Becoming a hero is the worst punishment in this world. Those who commit grave crimes are made heroes and sentenced to fight the Demon King. They are revived even after being killed, denied even the freedom to die.

Former Holy Knight commander Xylo Forbartz, sentenced to this punishment, leads a penal unit of damaged personalities through the front lines. Under these harsh conditions he encounters Teoritta, the sword goddess and one of the world's most powerful living weapons. After he annihilates the enemy, she demands praise and a pat on the head. To survive and avenge himself on those who framed him, Xylo contracts with the goddess and plunges into fierce warfare and conspiracy in a hopeless world.
