Serial Experiments Lain - An Omnipresence in Wired Yoshitoshi ABe Artbook Reprint Edition recreates the collection originally published in 1999. Its wide A4 hardcover presentation gives space to ABe's illustrations and to an ambitious design that translates the anime's idea of layers into print through page layouts, typography and printing effects.
Colour illustrations are accompanied by monochrome sketches, four-panel comics and the complete About the Layers conversations between Yoshitoshi ABe and Chiaki J. Konaka, originally serialised in AX magazine. These materials preserve a view of the work from around its original broadcast.
This is the reprint of the 1999 collection, distinct in format, design and editorial contents from the later 2005 illustration book. Published by Fukkan.com, the Japanese-language volume contains 128 pages. The clear outer case supplied with the original edition is not included.
