Showa 100 Japanese Citypop Non-Stop Best Mix brings together original recordings from Japan's city-pop era in a fast-moving DJ mix. City pop emerged in the late 1970s and 1980s with sophisticated urban melodies and lyrics influenced by Western music. Renewed interest overseas from the 2010s helped bring it back to Japan as a major musical category.
Released in 2025, the year that would mark Showa 100, this collection draws on the city-pop songs that colored Japan. DJ Caesar, who grew up with the genre and created the Weekly Shonen Jump 50th Anniversary and Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary anime mixes, applies his extensive knowledge to the selection.
The mix evokes an era of city nights, illuminated skylines and poolside glamour. Illustrator Misaki Tanaka provides the jacket artwork, making this a welcoming introduction to city pop as well as a continuous sequence for established listeners.
