Showtime 7 Blu-ray + DVD Set

At 7 p.m., a mysterious caller reaches a radio programme. Moments later, a power station explodes. The caller names Shinnosuke Orimoto, once the popular anchor of national news programme Showtime 7 and now demoted to radio, as his negotiator. Orimoto sees the crisis as a chance to reclaim his career. He enters the television studio during a live broadcast and forces a nationwide link with the attacker, placing himself back in the anchor's chair.

Then he learns that a bomb has already been planted somewhere in the studio. Leaving will trigger an immediate explosion. The attacker's demands shift and escalate, while carefully prepared traps close around Orimoto and everyone with him. Their ordeal unfolds before the entire country in real time. Why was Orimoto chosen, who is the caller, and what does he actually want? The answers lead Orimoto toward an unpredictable decision in the final six minutes.

Hiroshi Abe plays a man driven by both ambition and a sense of justice, taking on his first newscaster role after four decades as an actor. Kazutaka Watanabe directs and writes this Japanese adaptation of Kim Byung-woo's The Terror, Live, introducing new developments to its tightly confined thriller premise. A complete television studio was constructed for simultaneous multi-camera filming, with repeated takes lasting more than ten minutes to sustain the immediacy of a live broadcast. Ryo Ryusei, Meru Nukumi, Mizuki Maehara, Tetsu Hirahara, Koki Uchiyama, Tamae Ando, Mitsuru Hirata, Haruka Igawa, Ryo Nishikido and Kotaro Yoshida complete the cast. Yoshimasa Terui composed the score, and Perfume performs the theme song Human Factory - Denzo Ningen.

The set includes the 98-minute feature on Blu-ray, with a full-film commentary by Watanabe and producer Yoko Ide, trailers and television spots. A separate DVD contains making-of and event footage. The Blu-ray programme totals approximately 103 minutes and the bonus DVD approximately 140 minutes. The feature offers Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, Japanese stereo audio description and commentary, and Japanese subtitles.
