Space Battleship Yamato Animation

The national science-fiction anime Space Battleship Yamato returns through reconstruction and a new interpretation, bringing together the elements of the 1979 television special A New Journey and the works that followed it. Continuing from 2202, the story builds a grand cosmic epic around Yamato's next generation of crew members and interstellar war on a galactic scale. New characters, original settings and new battleships bring a fresh wind to the story as Yamato presses onward to protect humanity's future.

Its name is darkness: Dezarium. The encounter with an enemy of unprecedented power draws a cruel truth closer. It is 2205. The Gamilas people have begun leaving their dying home world to migrate to Galman. Before even half of the migration is complete, an unidentified enemy attacks Gamilas and destroys it. The impact dislodges its twin planet Iscandar from orbit, and the mysterious enemy intends to tow it away. Dezarium leads the immense fleet of darkness. To save more than a hundred thousand surviving Gamilas people and Queen Starsha, who remains on Iscandar, Dessler challenges Dezarium alongside his former enemy, Yamato. They do not know that what awaits is neither victory nor defeat, but a confrontation with a cruel truth.

Yamato and its two companion ships join Dessler's fleet. To warp Iscandar again, Dezarium targets the planet Galmario as an energy resource. Kodai resolves to destroy the planet with the Wave Motion Gun to thwart the operation.

Powerless before the automated planet Goruba, the Earth and Gamilas fleets decide to give priority to rescuing everyone on Iscandar. Burdened by guilt over his use of the Wave Motion Gun, Kodai refuses to persuade Starsha. Dessler responds with words of contempt.

Starsha invites Kodai and Dessler into Sanctel, the sanctuary beneath Iscandar. In the great memory repository that stores the planet's elements, Kodai is reunited with his late brother Mamoru. The truth of Iscandar's salvation, and the truth of Gamilas, are revealed.

Moved by love, Dessler urges Kodai to fire the Wave Motion Gun and strike back at Goruba. As Kodai attempts to accept that reality, Domon's youthful passion moves his heart. Everyone must be saved. To carry out Domon's plan, Kodai and his companions hurry to Starsha.

Video bonuses, audio commentaries and a special record book accompany the concluding story. The record book includes explanations of the work and introductions to the characters and mechanics, while the jacket features newly drawn artwork.
