Sugar Dog Life Blu-ray Box

Sugar Dog Life Blu-ray Box serves up a gentle romance between a gifted university-student cook and a kindhearted police officer whose warmth catches him off guard. This four-disc set collects all nine episodes of the Japanese live-action adaptation of Yoriko's manga, with Koki Tanaka of SUPER DRAGON and Hideya Tawada in the leading roles.

Twenty-year-old Isumi Sakuraba is self-conscious about his height and youthful face. He lives alone, works part-time at a convenience store and belongs to a university cooking club, where his ability to turn almost any combination of ingredients into something delicious impresses his friends Yohei and Rihito. His culinary confidence does not quite protect him from loneliness.

On the way home from a welcome party, Isumi is stopped by police officer Kyosuke Amasawa, who mistakes him for a minor. After checking his student ID, Amasawa makes sure he gets home safely. The next day the officer appears at Isumi's workplace, then returns regularly to ask which boxed meal he should buy. Isumi finds his easy familiarity irritating, yet begins choosing meals with Amasawa's health in mind. Before he can think better of it, he offers to cook at the officer's home. A delighted response turns an accidental promise into the start of a closer relationship.

Tanaka plays Isumi's prickly exterior and softer feelings in his first starring television-drama role, while Tawada brings an unguarded, reassuring presence to Amasawa. Sota Uemura and Raiku appear as Isumi's friends. The theme song, SUPER DRAGON's Sweets, sets its romance to a mid-tempo EDM arrangement; Yayuyo performs the ending song Futari Yobi.

Three Blu-rays contain approximately 207 minutes of drama. The fourth adds around 74 minutes of supplementary material, including an Amasawa-and-Isumi special discussion, behind-the-scenes filming footage, outtakes and previously unreleased scenes. A booklet accompanies the set. Presented in 16:9 1080i with Japanese Linear PCM 2.0 stereo audio, this region-free edition has no subtitles.
