The Kabocha Wine First Look revisits L and Shunsuke's relationship through 13 episodes selected by creator Mitsuru Miura from the manga's 1981-1984 Shonen Magazine run. Reproductions preserve the appearance of the original manuscripts and restore numerous two-color pages omitted from earlier collected editions. Miura also created a new cover for this volume.
The selection moves from the birth of the S-and-L partnership through a warm scarf, Shunsuke's family business, shop work, Ashigara Mountain and a misunderstanding. Later episodes involve playing married, river memories, winter swimming, a video, three years of memories and the two-part missing-pendant story.
A gallery adds related illustrations, while the archives show character-design materials. An author Q&A recounts anecdotes behind the chosen episodes. Miura debuted in 1972, worked as Osamu Tezuka's assistant and received the Kodansha Manga Award for this series, which became a television anime in 1982. This Japanese-language Rittorsha edition contains 288 pages.
