The Last Blossom Blu-ray

Selected for the feature-film competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025. Will that flower bloom once more? The team behind Odd Taxi presents a story of one man's love.

The creative team behind the original television anime Odd Taxi, which drew attention with its unpredictable story, joins CLAP, the animation studio behind Pompo the Cinephile and The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes, works recognised at film festivals in Japan and abroad. Together they bring the distinctive original animated film The Last Blossom to life. Its story unfolds to the richly inventive music of cero. What awaits at its end?

Summer, 1987, in a town beside the sea. With help from Tsutsumi, whom he looks up to as an older brother, the gangster Akutsu begins living with Nana, six years his junior, in a simple apartment with balsam flowers blooming in the garden. Nana's newborn son, Kensuke, lives with them. Large fireworks can be seen from the veranda. The three lead modest but happy lives, until success in speculative land deals makes Akutsu wealthy. He starts living for pleasure and neglecting his home.

The Blu-ray edition includes a specially illustrated slipcase and tall case, a special booklet, an art-board card set and a reduced reproduction of Akutsu's drawing. Extras include the teaser and theatrical trailers, release commemorative stage greetings, behind-the-scenes footage of the dialogue recording and audio commentaries.
