Impossible. An unexpected story, an unforeseeable ending and a strangely unsettling mystery await in This Child Is Evil.

The film brings to the screen a runner-up prize winner from TSUTAYA CREATORS’ PROGRAM FILM 2017, the original-film project competition that also produced acclaimed works such as The Lies She Loved and Cinderella Addiction.

This eerie mystery received a Special Jury Mention in the fantasy section of the 42nd Porto International Film Festival, one of the world’s three major fantastic-film festivals.

Hana Kubo still bears the emotional scars of a traffic accident that affected her entire family. Her father Shiro, who runs a psychotherapy practice, was left with a leg disability. Her mother Mayuko remains in a vegetative state, while her younger sister Tsuki suffered burns to her face.

A boy named Jun Yotsui visits Hana while searching for the cause of his own mother’s strange illness. As Hana and Jun gradually grow closer, Shiro suddenly returns home with Mayuko, who has awakened after five years.

Shiro rejoices at the family’s reunion, declaring that a miracle has happened. Hana, however, senses that something is wrong: “That person isn’t my mother.” Meanwhile, a mysterious illness is spreading through the town.

The deluxe edition includes a booklet and video extras featuring behind-the-scenes footage, scene-selection visual commentary, the release-day stage greeting, the premiere screening, a roundtable discussion, an after-talk session and the trailer. Contents and specifications may change.
