Tomorrow’s Joe Vol.2 4K Remastered Blu-ray

The television-anime adaptation of sports-manga landmark Tomorrow's Joe arrives on high-quality Blu-ray remastered from a 4K restoration!

The story begins when wandering boy Joe Yabuki appears in a downtown lodging district beyond a bridge called Namidabashi. A born drifter, he demonstrates his fighting skills to save a girl named Sachi from yakuza. Boxing fanatic Danpei Tange witnesses his punches and recommends a career in boxing, but Joe flatly refuses. Then cheating charitable heiress Yoko Shiraki out of money lands Joe in a juvenile detention center, where he meets future rival Toru Rikiishi. Knocked down by Rikiishi's punch and tasting defeat for the first time, Joe suddenly develops a burning interest in boxing and decides to undergo Danpei's special training. Thus begin the two young men's unimaginable days of battle.

Volume 2 contains episodes 41–79, concluding the series, and the Rikiishi pilot film. The voice cast features Teruhiko Aoi, Jukei Fujioka, Shusei Nakamura, Taichiro Hirokawa, Kazuko Nishizawa, Toku Nishio, Kaoru Ozawa, Fuyumi Shiraishi, Keiko Ushizaki, Hiroshi Masuoka, Kaneta Kimotsuki, Shunsuke Shima and Joji Yanami, among others. The booklet includes comments by Akira Kawashima of Kirin and comedian Shinobu Hasegawa, plus an interview with former editor Tsutomu Shioya.

Some songs within the main episodes have been re-edited for rights reasons. Endings are recorded as preserved in the master material. Parts of the image, including endings and previews, retain roughness or dirt that cannot readily be corrected by remastering. The bonus film is not 4K remastered. Specifications may change.

The two region-free standard Blu-rays present the 4:3 programs in Japanese monaural audio without subtitles. The published approximate running time is 992 minutes including the 11-minute-21-second pilot. These are standard Blu-rays made from restored material, not 4K Ultra HD discs.
