Under Ninja Movies

Under Ninja brings Kengo Hanazawa's manga into live action with Kento Yamazaki as Kuro Kumogakure and Minami Hamabe as Ayaka Noguchi. Written and directed by Yuichi Fukuda, the film imagines a modern Japan where the ninja have not disappeared: they survive in secret, hiding in ordinary life while conducting missions around the world.

Although their organisations were supposedly dismantled after the war, as many as 200,000 ninja are said to remain. Work is scarce at the bottom of the hierarchy, and Kuro, a low-ranking member of NIN, passes his idle days in a shabby apartment. An important mission finally arrives: investigate Under Ninja, or UN, a mysterious organisation that has remained underground for more than 70 years.

Acting on information that UN has infiltrated Kodan High School, Kuro enters as a student. His classmate Ayaka finds his decidedly unstudentlike behaviour suspicious, yet cannot quite ignore him. When NIN's elite members begin falling victim to UN attacks, the conflict closes in on the school, drawing Kuro and Ayaka into a battle far beyond everyday life.

The cast also includes Shotaro Mamiya, Mai Shiraishi, Chihiro Yamamoto, Ryubi Miyase, Ryotaro Sakaguchi, Shinobu Hasegawa, Haruka Kinami, Tsuyoshi Muro, Amane Okayama, Mitsuru Hirata and Jiro Sato. Eishi Segawa provides the music, with doppelganger by Creepy Nuts as the theme song.

This deluxe edition pairs the 122-minute film with a second Blu-ray containing 314 minutes of special features, including making-of footage, a dedicated television special and recorded cast appearances. Trailers and television spots are also included, and the package contains a specially designed card.

The main film is presented in 1080p with Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 options, a Japanese 2.0 audio-description track and Japanese accessibility subtitles. The special-features disc uses Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0, with some mono material, and has no subtitles.
