Under the Big Onion Deluxe Blu-ray

Writing, waiting, receiving. Every moment was love. Bakufu Slump's Under the Big Onion becomes a film: a love story inspired by a classic song about a romance that stays in the heart forever.

The ballad takes its motif from the onion-shaped finial shining on the roof of Nippon Budokan, telling a delicate, bittersweet story of love. Its film adaptation turns those feelings into a moving romance.

Released by Bakufu Slump in 1985, the song was later remade as Ookina Tamanegi no Shita de: Harukanaru Omoi and released as the group's fifteenth single. A performance on the fortieth NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen and its use in commercials quickly brought it widespread attention. Many artists continued to cover it into the new millennium, and it is still sung today. In 2019, Sunplaza Nakano-kun released a Reiwa First Year version, renewing interest in the song.

The film's theme is a cover by asmi, an Osaka singer-songwriter whose voice has become widely heard across social media.

Two people share the same place without ever meeting. Takeru and Miyu work at Double, which operates as a bar at night and a cafe during the day. The only link between the night worker and the day worker is a notebook used to pass on messages.

At first, they write only work instructions. Gradually, they begin to share their interests and worries. Never having met makes it easier to be honest. In reality, however, they already know each other, cannot see eye to eye and have a terrible relationship.

Unaware of each other's identity, they promise to meet for the first time under the big onion at Budokan. Meanwhile, a radio programme recounts a romance with a penfriend from thirty years earlier. That couple also promised to meet at Budokan, in love despite never having seen each other's faces.

Will the two couples be able to meet under the big onion? As these romances from the Reiwa and Heisei eras intersect, a miracle awaits.
